ニューイヤーニューヨーク

あけましておめでとうございます。
別に今ニューヨークにいるわけでもなく、ニューヨークのついた曲名があったのでTaylor Swiftを選んだだけです。ニューヨークをタイトルにつけたのは今年の決意表明というか、昨年にも増して（自分の学習も兼ねて）The New YorkerやThe New York Review of Booksから記事を紹介していきたいと思うからです。

New York Review of Booksでは「これを読まずして年は越せないで賞」に選ばれたSixth Extinctionを書いたElizabeth KolbertがNaomi Kleinの本のレビューを載せていました。Kleinからのレビューへの返信へのやり取りも合わせて読むことをお勧めします。やっぱり答えのない問題にどのように答えを出していくのか、資格の先にあるものはこういう態度が必要なんでしょう。

こういう雑誌を読めるようになる必要があると言われれば、普通のサラリーマンや英語教師には不要ですというしかないです。でも、「俺は本気の英語学習者だぜ」と少しでも見得を切るなら、これらは目指すべきものに入れるべきでしょう。資格という梯子を投げ捨てて、また違った梯子を登り始めるべきなのです。超絶劣化版の英語教師なんてもう溢れるほどいるんだから今改めてなるもんじゃないはずです。YutaもNew YorkerやNew York Review of BooksはYutaでもスラスラ毎号読めるというものではないですから、これは自分への煽りでもあります。論哲のハイパーテキスト版です。
