Enclosed are merchandising items to help create excitement in your store:
• Go Set a Watchman buttons for store staff or to give to customers
• Bookmarks
• A poster and easel for in-store displays
• A discussion guide for To Kill a Mockingbird
(also available at hc.com/gosetawatchman)

Early Reviews of ‘Go Set a Watchman’ Are Out: Atticus Is No Saint
By JEFFREY A. TRACHTENBERG
When I got to Monroeville, I found the town embroiled in a new squabble. It started in 2012 when Lee applied for a trademark on To Kill a Mockingbird merchandise. The Monroe County Heritage Museum, which sells mockingbird ornaments, T-shirts, and tea towels in its gift shop, opposed the application. “We said it’s a colloquial type of Southern thing, the phrase, ‘It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird,’ and it should not be trademarked,” says Tom Lomenick, president of the museum’s board of directors. Lee sued the museum. They settled out of court. The mockingbird knickknacks are still for sale.
To Kill a Mockingbird
what is the meaning of the title phase "It's a sin to kill a Mockingbird"
This is because mockingbirds merely bring beauty and happiness into the world. At one point Miss. Maudie explains,
"Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mocking bird."
The title refers to innocent people like Tom Robinson and Boo Radley who, like the mockingbird, only wish to bring a little happiness into a harsh world.
Properly speaking, “Go Set a Watchman” is a practice run for “To Kill a Mockingbird,”と習作にすぎないと書いています。
But the anticipation has somewhat obscured the awkward details about “Go Set a Watchman,” as the novel is called (the title comes from the Book of Isaiah). Although it is set in the mid-1950s, around 20 years after “To Kill a Mockingbird,” it is not a sequel. Ms. Lee, who is now 89, wrote it first, submitted it to a publisher in 1957 and, on an editor’s advice, refashioned it into the book that’s now assigned in grade schools all over the country. Properly speaking, “Go Set a Watchman” is a practice run for “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and it existed before anybody could have known that small-town Alabama lawyer Atticus Finch would become a symbol of the nation’s moral conscience.
A HARPER LEE TIMELINE
1957: Harper Lee submits ‘Go Set a Watchman,’ a novel set in the 1950s featuring Jean Louise ‘Scout’ Finch as an adult. Lee’s editor suggests she write instead about Scout as a girl. The resulting book, ‘To Kill a Mockingbird,’ is set in the 1930s.
1960: ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ is published.
1961: ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ wins the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.
1962: The film of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ (below) is released. The movie, which wins three Academy awards, stars Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch and Robert Duvall as Boo Radley and has a screenplay by Horton Foote.
2015: HarperCollins announces that the manuscript of ‘Go Set a Watchman’ has been rediscovered. It will be published July 14.
the title comes from the Book of Isaiahとあったので、旧約聖書のイザヤ書でGo Set a Watchmanを調べてみたところ、イザヤ書/ 21章 06節に「わが主はわたしにこう言われた。
The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.
2 A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.
3 Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.
4 My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.
5 Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.
6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.
7 And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:
8 And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:
9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.
10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.
11 The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?
12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.
