TOEIC受験から離れてしまっていますが、TOEIC形式変更と聞けばどうしても興味が湧いてしまいます。
新形式の問題について
形式変更された試験内容をさっと確認しただけですが、What’s the big deal?と感じました。単にブランクがあるだけかもしれませんが大きな変更とは思えません。印象分析でしかありませんが、新しく追加された部分は中級者と上級者のレンジをもう少し丁寧に振り分けようとしている感じがしました。パート3の話が長くなるだけでガクンと正解率が落ちてしまうようだと英語運用力が高いとは言えないでしょうからね。
とかく業界関係者は大騒ぎしやすいですが、HUMMERさんはその当たり冷静に分析されていますね。Twitterを引用させていただきます。
①今日は六本木にあるグランドハイアット東京で行われた「TOEIC Test Updates 発表会」に参加してきました。今回の変更を一言で言うのであれば「マイナーチェンジ」だと僕は思います。
②変更される部分にどうしても意識がいってしまいますが、例えばリスニングであれば合計23セットのうち新形式になるのは７～８セット・全体の３分の１だけです。今まで通りの勉強で３分の２のセットに対応できるのです。
③今まで通り、単語や文法を一つひとつ覚え、英文を聞き、読む。そして問題を解き、自分に足りない部分を補完すること。やるべきことは全然変わりません。最終的には「全部聞いて全部読む」これを制限時間内にできれば良いのです。１mmも心配いりません、200%大丈夫です。
アメリカETSのサイトにも今回の変更のプレスリリースがありました。新形式のTOEICに関するプレスリリースもTOEIC的な表現が満載ですね。こういう形式変更でupdateと使っていますので、ここでも大きな変更ではないというメッセージを感じ取ることができます。

Princeton, N.J. (November 5, 2015) – Educational Testing Service (ETS), the creator of the TOEIC® Program, announced updates to the format of questions used in the TOEIC® Listening and Reading (L&R) test. The changes will take effect in Japan and Korea beginning with the Public Test in May 2016. The updates will not impact the rest of the world at this time.
The TOEIC test was first launched in 1979 to measure English communication ability in global business. The test was last revised in 2006. The updated question format will reflect the changing use of English and the ways in which individuals commonly communicate in everyday social and workplace situations around the world.
“As the use of English evolves and changes, so must tests and test questions,” said Feng Yu, Ph.D., Executive Director of the TOEIC Program at ETS. “To ensure that the TOEIC test reflects current language use and measures the language skills that individuals need, ETS will be updating sections of the TOEIC Listening and Reading test.”
Although some of the question formats within the test will change, ETS has conducted several studies to verify that there will be no change in meaning for the TOEIC Listening and Reading test scores before and after the updates. There also will be no change to the level of test difficulty or total testing time. Scores will continue to be comparable across test-form administrations.

そうはいっても一番力をいれて書いている最後の部分は、変わらないところの強調。スコアや難易度、試験時間など従来通りと説明していますね。

チャットを取り入れるとなると、より口語表現が使われることになります。丁寧な表現を基調としていたTOEICにどれだけカジュアルな感じが加わるのか興味があります。
こういう形式変更があるとすぐに「試験対策に頼らない本物の英語力」というトピックを持ち出したくなります。でも、今回に関しては、HUMMERさんの分析の通り、今までの延長上に今回の形式変更があると捉えた方がふさわしい感じがします。耳が痛い話ではありますが、今まで通り地道にやるしかないんでしょうね。。。
