ブレーンストーミングは「ブレスト」なんて訳されていますし日本語として定着していますよね。TOEICでもbrainstormingは登場しています。

さて本題ですが辞書を見ておっと思ったのはbrainstormingにはbrainstormという名詞があったこと。まあ当たり前じゃんと言われるかもしれませんが、ミーティングのbrainstormingとは同じ意味ではないんですよね。

辞書の定義や例文を見るとこちらはbrainstormingのミーティングででてくるような個々の「ひらめき」、「アイデア」を指すようです。知らんかったです。。。
このbrainstormとbrainstormingの関係は、一つ一つの価格を指すpriceと価格設定を指すpricingとの関係に近いものがありそうです。日本語ではグランドオープンという言葉が平気で使われているようにingの使われ方に鈍感になりやすいので、こういう意味の違いを見落としがちですよね。まあTOEICではwidthとwideningが以前話題になったようにパート5の一問を左右するくらいのものでしかありません。。。
さらにpriceとpricingのようにある程度分けて考えられるものだけでなく、listとlistingと使い分けが難しいものがあります。ネイティヴ向けの辞書にはbrainstormがbrainstorming sessionの語義も載せているではありませんか！
