リアルTOEIC 当局発表

要人の暗殺なんてTOEICでは絶対でないトピックですが、当局発表のようなフォーマルな通知はTOEICのストライクゾーンです。マレーシアの警察当局の発表資料を確認してみます。読みやすいように大文字だけの文章を変えさせてもらいました。

The royal malaysia police (RMP) would like to confirm that a 46 year old north Korean male who sought initial medical assistance at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) customer service counter, has died enroute to hospital, on 13 February 2017. Based on his travel document, the deceased has been identified as: -

NAME: KIM CHOL
Passport No : 略
D.O.B / P.O.B : 10 JUN 1970 / PYONGYANG

Investigation is in progress and a post mortem examination request has been made, to ascertain the cause of death.

表現をさっと抜き出しただけでもTOEIC的な表現がありふれていることがわかります。

seek initial medical assistance　救急処置を求める
TOEICでもseek advice / seek supportのような表現がありました。

enroute to hospital　病院搬送中に
on the wayの堅い言い方ですが、フォーマルな文章が出るTOEICでは登場するかもしれません。

based on his travel document　旅券によると

the deceased has been identified as　死亡者の身元はas以下のの通り
「the + 形容詞」のような表現はYutaが調べた限りありませんでした。ETSがフィルターをかけているのでしょうか。今後意識的に見てみたいと思います。has been identified asのような表現を見れば身分証がidentificationだということもしっくりくるようになります。

ascertain the cause of death 死因を特定する
ascertainも堅い言い方ですが、パート5の難しい語彙問題に出てもおかしくなさそうです。

一般人としてはKLIA２という格安航空会社向けのターミナルで起きたことが驚きです。。。
