provideはofferになっていく？

12月に韓国で出版された既出問題集 Test1のパート6に[provide someone something]の形が出ていました。この形については以前Morite2さんが取り上げてました。

TOEIC復習語法provide

しかし、実際の英語ではこの形だけでなく

provide 人　モノ

の第４文型や

provide モノ to 人

の形も取れます

つまり、giveやofferと同じ形もとれるわけです

まだ、英和辞典にも載ってなかったりするのが信じられません

「provide 人　モノ」はTOEICで見たことはありませんが

provide モノ to 人

は２回出題されています

2017年に出た韓国のETS TOEIC VOCA前書きの最後にもあった語形ですが、TOEICテストの問題文でも使われるようになっているんですね。

丁寧に調べてみると英和辞典でもこの語形を取り上げています。

ウエブサイトの会社案内にも使われているのでアメリカでは普通の表現になっているのかもしれません。

そうは言ってもTOEICでの使われ方は以下のような従来通りの語形がほとんどですので過剰反応は控えたいです。

provide something for someone

provide something to someone

イギリス系の英英辞典では[provide someone something]の形は誤用と厳しく指摘していますしね。

When provide means ‘to give someone something they need’, use the pattern provide someone with something (not ‘provide someone something’):

✓ She had enough money to provide him with a basic school education.

タイトルについてですが、provideとofferって意味も似ていますし、語形もofferのようになっていますから、アメリカ人の感覚だとprovideはofferに近いものになっているかもしれないなという雑感からつけたものです。
