ジェニファー・ローレンスを一躍有名にした映画ウィンターボーンの監督が新作を発表したようで、先週全米公開されたとか。いつものように日本公開日が未定なのにイライラさせられます。

Summaryカンヌ映画祭・監督週間にも選ばれた、デブラ・グラニク監督の『リーブ・ノー・トレース』が、ついに来週6月29日に公開される。
『リーブ・ノー・トレース』は、社会から離れ公園のジャングルの中で生活をする父娘を中心に描かれている。彼らは雨の水を飲み、テントに住み、手で火をおこすという、原始的な生活を送っている。しかし、公園に国の許可なく住むのは違法。警察に見つかってしまい、強制的に社会へと連れ戻される。これまでと全く違う生活を強いられた2人だが、その生活にだんだん馴染んでいく父とは反対に、以前のジャングルでの暮らしが忘れられず戻ろうとする娘が対立する。果たして2人が選んだ生き方とは…？
日本のメディアは日本公開映画しか扱いませんから、こういうネットの新作情報はありがたいんですが、「その生活にだんだん馴染んでいく父とは反対に、以前のジャングルでの暮らしが忘れられず戻ろうとする娘が対立する」はアレっと思いました。この映画のレビューを見る限り、社会に慣れていくのが娘だと思うからです。

Early on, Tom and Will are caught in the park and brought by social services into a small rural community where Will works as a laborer on a Christmas tree farm and dutifully attends church with his daughter. By necessity, he opens up a crack, but he is always on the lookout for an escape route. You can see it in his eyes.
Tom, however, tasting her first young adult experiences in friendly territory, loses her desire to once again hit the road. She makes friends with grown-ups and with boys her own age; she takes part in beekeeping and pet rabbit competitions. Granik presents this grange and trailer park culture without a trace of condescension. She makes you understand why Tom would want to create a new life for herself and yet not leave her father behind.
こちらでもそうですよね。娘がTomという男っぽい名前なのが読み間違えの原因の一つかもしれません。

As a teenager full of curiosity for the world, Tom is more open than she expects to be to experiencing new things, to give new plans and places a chance.
Preternaturally poised with a pre-Raphaelite presence joined to palpable strength, actress McKenzie conveys all this quiet assurance with a minimum of fuss.
Her father, however, is a different story, and how much he can be normalized is more of an open question.
ウィンターボーンを見た方なら次の映画評の書き出しで言いたいこともわかるでしょう。重い映画なのでスカッとしたい人には向きませんから。

It’s risky calling a movie a work of art – the phrase can make audiences think they’ll be taking medicine, swallowing something good for them when they’d rather be gorging on multiplex junk food. But there’s no better term to describe the urgency and unbridled emotion of Leave No Trace. You don’t just watch it as much as you absorb it until the film’s ebb and flow become a part of you.
来月外国に行けるチャンスがあるので、その時にこの映画を観れるといいのですが。。。
