We return to COVID-19, and to Britain, where, so far, the virus has killed six people there; 370 people are infected and quarantined.

The British government is watching developments in Italy, amid fears that levels of infection could rise dramatically, and soon.

But as special correspondent Malcolm Brabant reports, for the time being, the attitude in Britain is very much, keep calm and carry on.

PBS News Hourでイギリスでのコロナウィルス対策の状況を伝えるレポートの導入でkeep calm and carry onという言葉が使われていました。こういうのは辞書に載っていないんですね。ここではイギリスで非常事態での出来事を伝えるフラグ的な役割でさらっと使われていると思います。日本で言うと「欲しがりません勝つまでは」「贅沢は敵だ」的なものなんでしょうか。

Keep Calm and Carry On （キープ・カーム・アンド・キャリー・オン、平静を保ち、普段の生活を続けよ）とは、イギリス政府が第二次世界大戦の直前に、開戦した場合のパニックや戦局が悪化した場合の混乱に備えて作成した、国民の士気を維持するための宣伝ポスターである。限られた数しか用いられなかったため、大戦当時はほとんど知られることがなかった。

Keep Calm and Carry On is a motivational poster produced by the British government in 1939 in preparation for World War II. The poster was intended to raise the morale of the British public, threatened with widely predicted mass air attacks on major cities.[1][2] Although 2.45 million copies were printed, and although the Blitz did in fact take place, the poster was only rarely publicly displayed and was little known until a copy was rediscovered in 2000 at Barter Books, a bookshop in Alnwick. It has since been re-issued by a number of private companies, and has been used as the decorative theme for a range of products.[3]

Coronavirus: Isle of Wight Council say 'keep calm and carry on'

At a meeting of the corporate scrutiny committee last night (Tuesday), council bosses reassured the public there is nothing to panic about following the confirmed Covid-19 case on the Island.

Responding to Cllr Debbie Andre, asking whether a strategy was in place to deal with the virus, Council leader, Cllr Dave Stewart, said the risk level was relatively low on the Island.

"We need to keep calm and carry on," he said. "I am extremely reassured by the professionalism of the public health officers and we have got some great practical things we are doing.
