熟語はイタチごっこ？

TOEICが許容できる表現範囲を広げたおかげで、これまで使われれなかった熟語や決まり文句も登場してきています。次の表現はこれまでの公式問題集で登場しなかったこともあり、TEXさんの金の熟語にも、他のTOEIC対策単語集でも載せていませんでした。

Jimは、自分の仕事全ての詳細に関する最新情報をあなたに伝えてくれます。

updateという単語はおなじみですから意味を類推するのは難しくないですが、こと熟語に関しては対象範囲の狭いTOEICといえども網羅するのは大変そうです。

keep/bring somebody up to date (=to give someone all the newest information about something)

そうは言っても安心、安定のTOEIC。奇を衒ったものは今後も出ないでしょう。今回のbring XX up to dateに関しても分かりやすい形で使われていました。改めて見比べてみると、最新のは苦しいのか首回りを開けていますね。声もかすれていますし、現在の体調が心配です。

ボリス首相はbring XX up to speedという表現も使っていました。

3月23日では動詞updateを使っていました。

動詞updateはお馴染みですが、update XX（人） on ...という形はTOEICでもあまり登場していません。

TOEICが表現の幅を広げてきているのは確かですが、いくらTOEICの問題集での登場回数が少なくても一般に使われる表現が出るでしょうから、TOEICに出るものは覚えていく方針でいいのかと思います。
