動詞learnを自然に使いこなす

I have to point out first that I’ve only learned about inbox recently by a Google blog post. So everything that I know sounds a little bit like a product commercial.

先ほど紹介した動画の前置きで、動詞learnが「知る」「耳にする」というような意味で使われていました。オックスフォードとロングマントも２番目の意味で紹介しています。

（オックスフォード）
learn
[intransitive, transitive] to become aware of something by hearing about it from someone else

We were very surprised to learn (that) she got married again.

（ロングマン）
learn
find out [intransitive and transitive] formal to find out information or news by hearing it from someone else or reading it [= discover]:
I didn't tell her the truth. She would learn it for herself soon enough.
learn of/about
He learned about his appointment by telephone yesterday.
learn (that)
Last week I learned that I was pregnant.
She was surprised to learn that he was a lot older than she had thought.

ちょうど紹介しようと思っていたAmazonからの配達予定日変更の通知メールでもWe have learned that there has been a delay with some of the item(s) in your order indicated above.のように動詞learnが現在完了形で使われています。

learnという動詞を使えば、「今まで知らなかった情報を知った」ことを表せるかもしれません。TOEICで使われていた例もまさにそのようなコンテキストを示すものでした。

We’ve just learned that one of our competitors is releasing a similar product in April.

I learned that the patio construction will require a building permit.

意味をとるだけなら簡単にできるかもしれませんが、このような基本語を自分から使えるかというポイントで考えるとなかなかどうして難しいものなんです。。。
