AVONと聞いて想像するのは。。。

AVONがどうこうはあまり重要ではないのですが、英語学習において、言葉の持つインプリケーションには敏感でありたいです。よくいくスーパーが紀伊国屋か、イオンか、はたまたドンキかで、だいたいその人の暮らしぶりって、日本人なら分かりますよ。辞書なら「日本のスーパーストア」の一言ですませてしまうかもしれませんが、言葉って思った以上の情報を含んでいるんですよね。本格的にメディアを読みたいと思っている方には、そういう含みにも関心を持ってもらいたいです。

「息子が訪問販売する」と言うのを聞いて、"Like Avon?"と聞き返していますね。それほど訪問販売＝Avonというイメージがあるということでしょう。こういうのは英語の運用力とは関係ありませんが、英語の理解力にとって大事な要素となってきます。興味を持っていろいろ学んでいきたいものです。
